Chapter 2 - DIAGNOSTIC APPROACH TO THE SICK CHILD

Each condition-specific chapter in the CD includes clinical cases that illustrate the diagonistic approach to the sick child. An integrated approach to management that includes all the processes or stages of management: Triage and Emergency Treatment, Diagnosis and differential diagnosis, Treatment, Supportive care and monitoring, Discharge planning, Counselling and follow-up should be emphasized when teaching people how to use the WHO Pocketbook. Integrated care requires the diagnosis of each problem that is present and also ensuring that each child receives all the care that is required. The cases  demonstrate how, for any sick child, each of these stages in care is important.
